Is it possible to save money using renewable energy?

I think many people believe that using renewable energy sources is more costly.  Even I was one of these people, until now.  A few years back, Ben and I switched to a green electricity company, trying to do our bit, but the bills was so high compared to our previous company that we had to switch back.  We earnt much less back then and had a baby on the way.  As much as we’d have liked to, we couldn’t afford to pay a premium to be greener back then.  We felt forced to have to use non-renewable energy.  Luckily, times are changing and nowadays it is possible to save money by using renewable energy.  In this blog post I’ll tell you how, from our own personal experience.

Natalia Welzenbach-Marcu | November 7th, 2018

The capacity of renewable energy in the United Kingdom has now outweighed the country’s capacity of fossil fuels by a small margin.

Renewable sources of energy, like solar- and wind-power, reached a capacity of 41.9 gigawatts between July and September, while non-renewable sources stayed at 41.2 gigawatts.

The UK has been making steady progress towards increasing its use of clean energy and inching away from its previous dependence on fossil fuels,

Fossil fuels often negatively impact the environment. Everything from the extraction of gas and oil to the emissions from its use damage our atmosphere and soil in some way. With clean energy becoming more and more prevalent, hope lies in major countries like the United Kingdom moving away from fossil fuels completely.

Mortgage Lending Could be Affected by the Energy Efficiency of a Property

In the past, mortgage companies have used relatively broad estimates in order to calculate a household’s energy usage. Lenders are now seeking to replace this with a much more in-depth analysis meaning that they can more accurately calculate a customer’s mortgage repayments (i.e. a low-energy home has lower energy bills, suggesting that these homeowners can afford a higher monthly repayment and therefore have more borrowing capacity).

The aim is to encourage UK home energy efficiency, and what better way than to offer a financial benefit? The LENDERS scheme is a project tackling this idea in the hope of increasing buyers’ demand for more energy-efficient properties, or investment in less energy efficient properties to be upgraded. Companies involved in the scheme include Nationwide, the Energy Saving Trust, BRE and many others in the industry, and the scheme is due to end early this year.
